Conservation concept Mandatory
Purpose and function of the section
The ‘Conservation Concept’ section forms the core of the conservation documentation. It sets out the conservation and restoration considerations, objectives and measures carried out to preserve or reconstruct an object. The term ‘conservation concept’ encompasses both purely conservation interventions (securing, stabilisation, etc.) and restoration measures (reconstruction) under a umbrella term.
This section reflects two phases of the actual work: the planning phase, including the rationale and objective (which can also be documented even if no specific measures have yet been carried out), and the implementation phase, which, as event-based modelling, contains details on the execution (who?, where?, when?, what methodology, materials and tools?) of the measure(s). This results in a complete record of the entire conservation process, from decision-making through to practical implementation.
