Preventive conservation Recommended
Purpose and function of the section
The ‘Preventive Conservation‘ section documents recommendations and guidelines for the general handling of the object. It specifies the conditions under which the object should be stored, displayed and handled in order to preserve its condition and prevent further deterioration. The section also includes elements for documenting the regular monitoring of an object in a structured, event-based manner.

Implementation notes
As the relevant parameters for preventive conservation are highly specific and individual depending on the object group, the elements listed in this section are all intended solely as recommendations, aggregated from comparisons across different specialist fields as part of the community-based development process for this schema. Not all elements are equally relevant in every case. Depending on the factors relevant to their own object types, institutions may expand upon or omit elements when implementing the scheme in their own systems. In the long term, it might be useful to further develop this section collaboratively within the individual conservation specialist groups.
