Object identification serves to uniquely identify the documented object and to place it within broader contexts. It ensures that the object can be unambiguously identified before, during and after the entire treatment process.
The data recorded in this section is not usually collected by conservators themselves, but is taken over as object data from curators or clients. The assigned metadata elements are therefore based on existing standards for general object recording. This section focuses on information that is relevant to conservators as a basis for assessing the condition of the object, selecting suitable conservation methods and interpreting signs of damage.

Implementation notes
Ideally, the information in this section should be transferred directly from the relevant object record into the conservation documentation, or linked to it, in order to ensure consistent data management. Manual entry by conservators is only necessary if no referenceable object record is available (for example, if no central collection management system is used or if the object is only being catalogued as part of the conservation-restoration process).
